P229's were always an "A" and another letter (i.e. AA, AB, AM, etc...) with AM being the last German prefix used. The US made frames originally had a "U" at the end of the 'A and another letter' (i.e. AJU, AKU, etc...), with the U designating US made. The P226 starts with U, the P228 B, P220 G, P225 M, and so on. The second U in your serial number means the frame was US made.

Being a P220 Compact I believe it should still follow the P220 sequence. It should have a "G" prefix, and six digit number. In this case it has 7 digits, but no visible prefix.
