I have found bass amps to be the best. A good tube ampeg driven really hard works. Josh gets a lot of his tone from the power amp section, which is why he drives his amps so hard. Also a Mid-rangy distortion pedal helps. Josh uses a Stone Deaf PDF-2. I use a Moog MF-Drive pedal, which allows you to really zero in on the mid range distortion.
